Local Therapy FAQs

Local therapist pay rates vary based on several factors including current market demand, specialty, location, as well as other factors that are specific to an individual contract. Our team is focused on listening to exactly what you want from a travel therapy assignment and prioritizing your needs. Our responsive, friendly recruiters will work closely with you to find a pay package and local therapy assignment that meets your needs. In addition to your weekly paycheck, you may be eligible for day-1 medical, vision, and dental benefits, professional development, travel reimbursements and 401K matching. When taking a local contract, within 50 miles of your home address, you will not be eligible for housing stipend and meal per diem based on government guidelines.
You will be eligible to enroll in a 401k plan through Fidelity as soon as you start with Host Healthcare. Upon completing 6 months and 500 hours of service, we will match the first 3% of your contributions at 100%, and the next 2% of contributions at 50%. All employer match contributions are 100% vested immediately!

In order to travel as a therapist, and qualify for tax-free stipends, your assigned facility must be more than 50 miles from your home of record (i.e. your tax home). Host Healthcare does offer local contracts for therapists looking to stay closer to home. The time it takes to obtain a therapy license can vary depending on the state and your individual circumstances. Some states have expedited processes for out-of-state applicants, while others may have more extensive requirements or longer processing times. The timing to secure your licensing varies state by state, so we recommend starting as early as possible so you are ready to start your travel assignment.
We want to make sure every therapist feels comfortable going into every assignment, so we offer reimbursements for scrubs, medical equipment, licensing, certifications, or any other professional development requirements you need for your therapy assignment.
At Host Healthcare, we take pride in building strong relationships with both our travel therapy professionals and healthcare facilities. Due to the trust we have built with healthcare facilities, you may receive an auto offer after you apply to a therapy position. While auto offers can occur with many of our partner healthcare facilities, this may vary based on a specific facility’s hiring policies and current market demands.
We do hire international therapy professionals. If you are an international therapist, there are a few additional requirements needed before we can match you to your perfect position:
  • All applicants must be licensed to work in the U.S. and in the State in which they will apply to work before they can begin the application process for any healthcare positions in the U.S.
  • Nurses from Canada and Mexico can apply for a nonimmigrant NAFTA Professional visa (also referred to as a TN Visa). Click here to learn how to qualify and apply for a TN Visa

No. A therapist professional cannot begin an assignment without a state license. Even if they are not working with patients directly, they must be licensed.
The Licensing team serves as advisors to our travelers by assisting them with state license applications. We provide curated application packets, answer questions, reach out to board contacts (when available), and help break down barriers during the application process. We cannot expedite approval, but working with a Licensing Specialist can help eliminate problems that cause delays.
A temporary license is a “bridge” toward licensure; the end goal is always to upgrade from temporary to permanent. In most cases, a temporary license can be a great option for a quick turnaround, but a traveler will need to pursue permanent licensure to make sure they can complete their assignment. Not all states offer temporary licensure, so be sure to ask a Licensing Specialist about state-specific details.
Travel therapist can start their career with Host Healthcare right after graduation on a local or travel contract.. The more experience you have, the easier it will be to be placed at the therapy job of your dreams.
